Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Ive done 2 car seat conversion into office chairs, the one i use, is a brand less reclineable seat with simple angle pieces(aluminium) drilled and bolted to the strut off an old office chair, works a treat.
The second was an absolute bust, it was a vw seat from a 6n2 polo, nice and comfie, but theres just too much going on with the seat underneath to make a good enough bracket to centre the seat and make everything work, even at its lowest the seat is awkwardly high and just doesnt work, if you can make it work then go for it, but my experience, its alot easier with regular aftermarket seats.

Good luck with it, and the sale

    -MK1 Golf The re-spray/re-build
In the family: -MK5 Jetta 2.0TDI, -9N3 Polo TDI, -6R Polo TDI, -Mitsubishi S^$&box van
A pattern seems to be forming...

Thanks polski I was wondering if it would work well since it would have a weird centre of gravity. Well there is no harm in trying when you have a swivel chair that is half worn out

I'm thinking of using a platform perhaps wooden with aluminium or steel frames and then just bolt and nut it together using the existing holes on the rails. Or will it tip over when I sit on it... lol

Thats pretty much what i did with the VW seat i had, and its wobbly, and not very stable, the sitting position is just all wrong.
If you can make it work then well done, i just gave up after changing the design of it 10 times, expecially since i got the generic brand seat to work the first go, and im still sitting on it 3-4 years later.

        Have fun with it

Would these fit a mk4 golf? are they leather and would you part out the front seats?

We tried fitting mine into a friends mk4 and its really hard. The mk4 has a single rail in the middle and these have rails on either side.

Nope it was too hard of a job. Its possible if you remove the metal from underneath the mk4 seat and swap it with the mk6 one. But that takes a long time and some fabrication is needed.

I found a thread on vortex where someone has dont it I will try find it again.
