I fitted the ECS auto lift kit to my Golf, and subsequently found out that EITHER inverting the brackets and adding springs, OR inverting the brackets and adding stronger gas struts was all that is needed to make the boot rise after the two second button press.
I opted for the stronger struts and the inverted bracket, which means someone can enable the auto lift by adding these spring loaded bump stops. I have read on forums that in very cold weather the springs alone may not lift the hatch, but on normal weather days they are sufficient to make the hatch spring up beyond the point at which the OEM struts then push the hatch fully open.
Here then for sale is the two bump stop springs - looking for $30 which includes shipping within Oz.
