ok the story with this head is this.
before buying this myself I tracked down and
spoke to the original purchaser of this head.
the details are as follows.
Has not yet been used since purchased so is in as new condition since its build.
KR head
KR Cams
Ported with flow bench testing.
This head was purchased and brought in from the UK.
This head was thoroughly Ported and flow bench tested by young engineer in UK.
As you can see from the photos that the porting could even be possibly "tidied"
the question was even asked of the engineer if the ports although ported should be smoothed even more.
the Answer is no.
The porting work that can be seen done in the photos achieved the target flow rates.
once the flow rates have been achieved any more work on the ports is not necessary and may even have a negative effect
on the flow of the heads ports.
From his flow rates He is quoted as achieving roughly 200hp at the flywheel using 9A 2L block, 40mm webers, and kr cams.
Looking around the forums will show that the 2L block and KR head is a tried and proven formula for increase hp.
Add to that a bit of internet research its not hard to see that with a flow tested head his quoted figures at the flywheel
are in the ballpark.
For something more like 200 hp ((at the wheels)) you might be looking at more aggressive cams
and higher compression pistons. So its not hard to see why most people settle for the lower end of
the budget option. As a 16v pushing 180hp at the wheels is ALOT of fun already!
The engineer who built this head was racing a scirocco at the time.
The Scirocco was his proving vehicle to show people what his skills could produce.
He was regularly building and selling the 16v heads he worked on at the time.
Personally i think we are fortunate to have another 16v head like this kicking around.
This head was originally brought into australia for a tidy sum.
value for money at $1300
