Thank you Forum Detectives. A little history of these units:

1. I bought the first unit that had a map DVD stuck in it. I was eventually able to remove it and installed the unit but the GPS was playing up. Thinking that the unit was faulty, I bought a second unit.
2. The GPS on the second unit also played up whereapon I realised that it was the antenna positioning in my Golf that was the culprit.
3. I sold the first unit and the owner is perfectly happy.
4. The second unit has been working flawlessly in my car for the last year. I am now selling my car so have offered the unit for sale (it's also listed on eBay where I have a 100% rating with 130 transactions).
