NSW WTB: 1.6L 'DUU' Gearbox needed!!!!!! Help!! Heeeeeellpp!!

OK, about 1 1/2 months ago, I spent $2000 on timing belt, water pump, thermostat, rocker cover gasket, etc. ...and a split drive shaft and wheel bearing!! I couldn't really afford it at the time, so I had to book it all up on my credit card.

This was all perfect, and immaculate in the engine bay, not even a whiff of oil let alone a drip, perfect.

... Then, 1 week ago, I smelt a lot of oil and the car started surging, but not the revs. Turns out the lovely 1.6L gearbox had ***** itself, including a crack in the housing!!

Now looking at $3200 for a re-conditioned gearbox installed!! I rang 'ASV euro car parts' and Brooky spares' for the lowest quote of $1000, then add $6-700 install and a $300 clutch and I'm looking at $2000 just for a 2nd hand one with the same inherent problems!!! And my credit card is already maxed out from the last repairs. NOT HAPPY JAN!!

Does anyone out there know of a 1.6L gearbox ('DUU' I believe) for sale?? Ideally a second hand one that has previously been reconditioned !! ??

This is for a MK4 Golf, 1.6L 'AKL' engine, 5sp Manual 'DUU' gearbox. The car is in Alexandria, Sydney, NSW.

I now have no car, and catching 2-3 busses for only a 11-12km trip each way to work!! DESPERATE !!!

Thanks, yeah, I called them on Friday, and Matt wasn't there, so I'm waiting to hear back from them today. Fingers crossed!!

If you want a strong gearbox rebuilt then PM me .
Otherwise every gearbox your gonna buy is just gonna do the same thing .

be wary even of reconditioned ones. And ask about warranty.

I had mine done by a place in Alexandria via bug_racer.

though my car has been though 3 DUU boxes since new (original till 76K kms, replaced the box with something found out to be dodgy till 115K kms, replaced the box with a reconditioned one till that leaked @ 116K kms, and then got a replacement under #3's warranty. Current one's got slightly dodgy synchro's and is now at 144K kms)

The current one has a crack in it, and would need the bolt kit to replace all rivets too. I'm not sure how much it would cost to fix the current one... Things aren't looking good!!

Most are fixable , your better off fixing yours than a second hand one .
