The fronts with ET35 stuck out too far though - about 6mm beyond the guard edge. Somewhere around ET41-48 would have been ideal & I was half thinking of getting the rear of the hub boss machined 10mm to reduce the poke as the BBS were a beautifully light wheel.
The other thing is that the stock wheel bolts don't fully engage with the hub - they do bolt up but the engagement is only 75% what it would be stock (it was on my car). While I considered it fine for "normal" driving, I would have felt uncomfortable on a track day or under a high stress environment.
I have no idea how close the guard profile of the Golf would be to an Octavia & the best way to test the wheels would be to fit them up.
