I'm getting pretty close to sending my VR6 golf to the wrecking yard, electircal gremlins are becoming to much to bear - no time to fix as its a daily drive and atm i would just rather be driving my car than always fixing it. But i am considering removing the interior i.e seats, door trims, steering wheel and gear knob as it is all in good nick, and selling it as a whole. I'm thinking that i would get more back for the car this way?, i realise i won't get much from the wrecker for a car minus interior but i probably wouldn't get a great deal more with it intact, it's done plenty of k's, l/h rear door is dented badly, coil pack is gone and front brakes and all tyres need replacing, it's for these reasons that i don't wish to resell the car on. The interior is all cloth and the drivers seat has been repaired as have both the r/h door trims to original condition, the gear knob and steering wheel are both new second hand items and also in good cond. I understand it would be a costly exercise for anyone in the eastern states to be paying for shipping as i am in Adelaide but for a vw fanatic or someone local it would prove to be an economical way of improving your cars interior or uprating that that's in your gl, cl model...thoughts anyone? Would i be wasting my time? P.S i am intending to sell only through ebay unless there's anyone in S.A interested.

I think you're better off trying to sell the car as a whole.
Providing the engine and gearbox are still in good condition, and running. I think it's much more valuable to an enthusiast, rather than a wrecker. You'll be lucky to get 300 bucks from a wrecker, and maybe the same for an interior, if you can find a buyer. (Not many people after complete mk 3 interiors, imo)
If it still runs drives etc and is mostly well behaved, you could get some decent money for it, espcially if it's still reg'd and able to be driven to the eastern states (much cheaper than trucking it over)

Plenty of demand for lots of the parts, but the general rule is that you're going to be better off selling it as a whole car, you might be stripping a good car and doing yourself out of a few grand... it's only the VR6 specific stuff that's worth anything, once that's gone it's really not worth a lot. Just my take bud. If you are going to chop it (would be a shame if it's not that far off being a solid car) I'm keen on a few little parts.
VR headlights are worth about the same as the interior, and much easier to take out.
If you want nothing more to do with it sell as is sounds like it might not be a tricky tidy up, or people are always looking for VRs as donors to shove in a 2 door shell etc, it will at least save your time/effort stripping it and carting it around, if not go for a bit more. Wreckers will low ball you and if it doesn't have an interior cracking 1000 would be pushing it.Last edited by Mk3 AAA; 14-06-2011, 12:46 PM.

Yeah I would have thought it would be a better idea to sell it as a whole. I've seen some cars that look pretty dodgy on here that have been worked up into great cars with a bit of TLC. If you do decide to take it to the wreckers though, I wouldn't mind buying the right hand tail light lens because mine is chipped. Good luck with it!'95 Golf VR6 Colour Concept

Whats the difference between VR6 and GL headlights??
I also have 2 donor VR6's at the moment, heaps of offers to relieve parts from them, but have resisted (and been taking what I need first) to try and sell them off as whole as possible when Im finished.96 VW VR6 Golf (Daily driver)

I have the right VR taillight spare, but it has a crack on the inside rough plastic that gets covered by the door, could probably be sealed without a drama, throw me a PM if you want a photo.
