Considering I am bringing in a minimum of 3 sets anyway, the shipping break will be roughly 50% of what it would be to ship yourself. So there is a decent cost saving. And the import duty threshold is $1000 AU including shipping so even if you ship one set, it's over the limit.

not correct preeny, the threshold is A$1000, not including shipping. however, if you exceed A$1000 for the goods, then customs will include the value of the shipping to calculate the duty and GST payable.

However, you are correct that if one set is over A$1000 ex USA, then you are already bound to pay duty/GST, so getting a shipping break will save some dollars

Hmmm. We were always of the belief that the threshold included shipping, which didn't make a lot of sense, but we just figured it was another way the Gov't had changed the rules to extract a few more $$ out of everyone.
