Was this from Maroochydore car audio?
Bought an Orion sub from them in sealed box some years back, not a big name but quality subs that don't need a massive amp to get good sound.

Technically not, well, not anymore.
They were, about 10-15 years ago. They were one of the industry leaders in mobile audio until got sold off some years ago. Company moved their manufacturing to China and all kinda went downhill sort of. This happened to quite a few other big name brands i believe. Precision Power, Soundstream etc to name a few.
I'm not saying that the abovementioned sub-woofer is rubbish or anyhting, its just not the Orion product that made Orion the huge name in Audio that it used to have. I'm sure its a fine product and will goie many years of thumpin. Good luck with the SALE.

Fair enough but moving a good product to china doesnt make a bad product. All the "big name brands" where always made in china (pioneer, sony, alpine). Orion still make earth moving subs, as do soundstream and kicker which have both moved to tiwan and china. Even though they are made in china youll be hard pressed to find something from the "big name brands" that will out perform them.

Sure! All good points. Back in the day when Pioneer were, well, pioneers, I'm pretty certain they were made in Japan along with Alpine. Sony is just plain rubbish. They never made good audio of any kind really. Their visual products have been far more successful. Pioneer have definitely lost their passion, they've worked hard in the 90's to get a name for themselves and now they are just mass producing very ordinary products. Kinda sad to see a company that was so successful, just loose passion like that. AFAIK any brand of car audio that can be bought from WOW and JB are just plain s#@t. I would only ever go to a specialised car audio shop for advice and products.

They can and do manufacture good quality products along with some bad ones abviuosly. it's all about Qaulity Control and how a given company implement their ethics towards this. So many products are designed in a western country and get their designs manufactured in China these days anyway.
