Bought wrong size clutch for my car.

cheap part. just got quoted 10min ago for an 8V GTI clutch kit - $380!

this is for a 16V and is uprated sports clutch too.

chuck it in the cupboard for when you need it?!?!

I have a saachs uprated 8v one with a 16v pressure plate.
Sitting on the shelf from the US.

I've been meaning to upgrade my clutch. I have the 16v engine (KR). Are there different size clutches for these engines? Can I be sure that this one would fit my engine?

The clutches are the same, its all down to what gearbox you have as to whether you have the smaller input shaft, or the larger.

1.8 GTI and Mk3 CL have the smaller and 16v and Golf 3 Have the larger.

16v pressure plate is stronger than 8v, obviously.

Tell me your gearbox code and I`ll tell you the input shaft size.

Lie under the car and look at the bottom of the gearbox, it has a plate on with a number on it. 2Y is standard 16v Gearbox with the bigger shaft.
