Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK1 Lowered springs

Digging through the garage today I come across these springs which I have no need for.

all 4 springs plus front spring hats included.
    Product codes are as follows

    Front KVFL-11

    Rear KVRL-12

Used only for a couple thousand kms on my mates cabriolet which he then replaced with something a bit more upmarket.

According to the king springs catalogue they will suit 76-84 petrol Golfs and lower the car around 30mm.

Looking for around $150 for them. Shipping would be at the buyers expense.

Can bring them up to sydney for the nats for all the tight arses

Theyre not my springs so I dont really know every little detail about them. I did ride in the car when they were in it though and I dont remember them being too bad?

The other thing is the kingsprings site lists them as being compatible with petrol models. Not sure what the difference is on diesel models. maybe some of the more mk1 savvy people here can chime in.
I remember my friend saying that some mk1 models do have different spring hats. I think thats why he has included them in the box.

Id prefer to keep questions in the thread. At least thay way everyone can get the benefit from them.

They say that there are different rates needed for diesel/petrol because the 1.5 diesel is slightly heavier than the petrol engines.

As far as I know, the difference would be less than 30kg, and if you were worried about that, then you should match your spring rate to the driver/passenger weight too.

The petrol ones will be fine on a diesel mk1. Good luck with the sale mate.

              cool thanks for that.
Is anyone able to clear up the issue with later model cabbys? Did they run a pigtail spring which used different spring hats? I dunno i remember my friend saying something just cant remember the specifics. Ive not had much dealings with mk1s

I do know my mates cabby used to sit pretty low with these. Looked tough. But thats probly cos the late mk1 cabby is a fair bit heavier

the front springs on the mk1 93 cabriolets do taper in/pigtail at the top.
