The time has come to move on from my fantastic little Golf R.
I bought it brand new in November 2012 from a dealership who had managed to get it built from the factory in Tornado Red, the GTI hero colour that wasn't available on the R here in Australia. Apparently that dealership chain managed to bring in 6 TR Rs before VW Australia cottoned on and put a stop to their dastardly scheme, so this is one of the very few factory TR Rs here in Oz.
Factory options were the leather interior, Nav, reversing camera, sunroof and 19" black tallas. I've added some DSG paddle extensions, a PolarFIS unit and an upgraded Mk7 climate control unit.
Of course it's the oily bits that are the best feature. This is a full APR Stage 3 car, with Garrett GTX28xx big turbo, carbon intake, intercooler, fuel system,turbo-back exhaust and ECU and DSG software tunes to suit. It's got the latest APR control module and LPFP setup which includes the quick drain system to easily swap fuels and take advantage of a race fuel map if desired.
Before the LPFP upgrade it logged 262kW at all 4 wheels, with the fuelling upgrade apparently good for another 15-20kW at the flywheel. Tested 0-100kph is 3.7s, standing kilometre in 22.1. That's 100% verified supercar beating - look for the Snowy Mountain 1000 threads on this forum to see the full list of 6-figure exotica we smoked in the Golf.
Aside from Cooma my R has been a pure street car, having never set wheel on a race track or quarter mile drag strip.
With the recent 30k km service and a full DSG oil change I've spent about $40,000 over the last 2 years over and above the purchase price of $61,755.
If you're looking for an R and planning to do some mods yourself you won't beat the value in buying one already upgraded.
Some pics are posted below, with more detail over on CarSales if anyone is interested.
