Actually their is a limit to the power plant you can put in it volksmuller
looks like i have got the one that you sold to Andrew.
My experience was...
After building the caddy back to stock specs an engineering certification
will cost from 1100 to 1500.
He did not like to certify vehicles that have been modified, they like to see
a stock example get registered first and then they welcome you back after registration
to re engineer a modification such as an engine swap.
Things that needed to be changed were things like
-headlights to dip to the left
-Seat belts
-make sure intrusion bars are in the doors
-stock tyres and rims were also important for my approval.
-also on my american Caddy the certifier did not like the exhaust exiting to the side
and i had to change it to exit to the rear of the vehicle.
This certification was my approval to go further in the registration process
after which a blue slip was required.
During the engineering certification a Gross Vehicle Mass will was determined from a weigh bridge ticket that I had to provide.
This was recorded as the vehicle GVM and was what determined the size of engine i can use or
plan to swap into the caddy as per ADR VB14.
my GVM was 930 kg so the biggest size engine for
NA - 3.7L
Forced induction - 2.5L
Insurance is a killer and only Shannon's would insure mine.
after all the bull crap its easy to see where the better part of 10k is needed to put a stock example on the road
cost me 13k so far but worth it non the less.Last edited by Dub Toffee; 05-12-2013, 03:06 PM.

Mk1 CADDY
Dub is correct, I have 1988 Euro Mk1 caddy and to get that registered in NSW, I had to retain the original 1.6 diesel engine, other wise you do need full engineering certificates plus blueslip, as mine was registered in UK and was standard I just needed blue slip.
I have put 100's hours into the body now, and the car + parts costs is at approx $16,000 so far and I am only just getting up to painting.
I am going to a 1.9 turbo diesel which will need a brake upgrade and once that happens I can't used the original wheels anymore.
It's a never ending project, but I love it.
