Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Wow! Very nice. I plan to have something similar. Can I ask who installed your engine and made your loom?

        Cheers,

        Andrew

A sensible offer should be closer to $20k.

Why $20k? That show winning mk1 GTI with a 20vt in it sold for just under $10k this week. Not trying to be a d*ck just calling it how I see it.

Why is everyone selling their awesome mk1s...

This one has a brand new engine in it (unless I am mistaken from the mods list.) Show winning or not, a serious amount of time and money has gone into this.

FWIW I think its a $20k car but then something is only worth what somebody is willing to pay.

It really does look amazing, I'd love to see more pics of it.

For each persons private reasons they feel the need for a "FIRE SALE " doesn't mean the articles sold are of lesser value than their true worth not whats paid for them.
Reminds me of a stock market crash: everybody panics.
The Mk1 GTI in question may well have brought a lot more $s in time as its a very small market, every thing sells in time.
Good luck to whoever won it as it was certainly the bargain of the year.

The other 20VT Mk1 did not get sold! eBay machinations maybe?

You never get back what you spend on a project, but lots of good and new gear on this car.

It would be good if people were prepared to pay more for VWs but its the perpetual low balling that makes it hard to sell good cars for decent money and that damages the market. That said, its worth whatever someone will give you on the day. It's a small market, which limits the options for a quick high price sale. Plus with the economic downturn at the moment, lots of people feeling the pinch and not spending money on toys.

Sorry for thread hijack Gareth, good luck with sale.

Perhaps put up an indicative price. Ones mans sensible, is another mans silly.

(also, as per forum rules )
