  • VIC Mk1 Golf with a MK2 Turbo Diesel Engine

    Ok Guys.

I have a been collecting diesel Mk1 gear for a while and have a heap of gear up for sale
Firstly I was collecting stuff to make my little diesel go a little quicker, and amass quite a few things then ended up coming across a mk2 turbo diesel engine. I was half way through getting everything together and then my twin daughters were born and now I am heading overseas to live, so all my cars and gear and biodiesel setup will have to be sold. This is a different car to the other one advertised.

FOR SALE is a 1980 Mk1 with a MK2 1.6 Turbo diesel engine in it.
1.6L 70 PS (51 kW; 69 hp) I4 turbo diesel. which is compared to 1.5L 50 PS (37 kW; 49 hp) I4 and with a few modifications should be able to hit 100/120 hp reliably with the equal lenth manifold and the govenor pump mod.

The engine is in the car but it needs to be timed and tuned its mated to a stock mk1 four speed. I have all the timing tools and a few manuals to go with it

The body is in good condition with a few dings and a few spots of surface rust and a small bubble on the back tailgate. The paint is in decent original condition and the vinyl interior is in good with a small hole in on the rear seat.

The car is on lowered 40mm springs

Extras that come with this car are

equal length manifold. helps get an even amount of air to each cylinder and each keep the temperature even and allows it to breath better.

GTI front and rear sway bar. All the fittings are there except one piece

    quad Head Light grill

    Headlight brow

    wheel arch flairs

brake up grade with larger rotors and callipers

This will be a cracking little car that is both quick and fuel efficient and rare with the turbo diesel engine in it.

    $2500 OBO

Does the passenger get a better wheel than the driver?

          So, so, so awesome.

Does it drive at the moment? Just rough?

Mk1 Golf with a MK2 Turbo Diesel Engine

Haha well spotted. When I'm working in the garage I let the twins drive to a sandy beach!! With the Logitech momo there's no arguments as they both get to drive. Keeps them amused for ages. And it's a s#i+storm to get them out.

It's not driving at the moment as it needed to be timed. I'm very sad I didn't get to finish it as the motor was a fun drive in the passat it came out of. And i loved driving that little golf.

Who knew that kids would take up so much time and money?? Can't get a refund on em. Cheeky buggers.

            Good luck if you bid.

Omg, I hear ya. My two came at different times and I *still* needed to sell my crap.

Ok, I note you say "The engine is in the car but it needs to be timed and tuned its mated to a stock mk1 four speed"
Does that mean the gearbox mating is already done?

Was anything custom used? Drive shafts etc?

I'm looking to buy something that would be a great fun project while being a perfect daily and super easy to work on (hence my quizzing you on the S/W123 that I am still watching on eBay.) From my imports background (Skylines etc) a lot of conversions resulted in custom bits being made. I don't know how similar the Mk1 and Mk2's were in this regard.

              Thanks Mark.

Yes the gearbox is already mated. Everything else is stock except for the engine. Someone correct me if im wrong but I think all engines from MK1 to Mk3 are a bolt in operation. Even though the merc is nice and comfortable I much preferred the golf to drive. It just has that fun factor that the merc is missing. I'm actually disappointed that I wont get to drive the golf when its finished. I loved the little GLD and always thought it would be better with a bit more power.
