Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Sorry to ask, is it OBD1 or ODB2?
                    Cheers.

If OBD2 means that it came with full carpet, no wheels shares etc, then that's what it is If there is another way I can check let me know, but it is more modern than the other two VR6 I had.

Should be OBD2. Is fully colour coded (bumpers/ door trims), No wheel guards, rear hatch light separate from spoiler, round guard indicators and orange front bumper indicator covers are all OBD2 things. 1996-1998 models were all OBD2.

I may be wrong but I was led to believe that 96 was a cross over year and that some cars had mis matched parts. So a 96 could have the color coded bumpers and still be OBD1??
I am not sure exactly what to look for but it is a few minor details in the engine bay which would give it away. I'll google...

Turns out the cross over year is 95 so this should be OBD2. Shame it's not a write off, would love an OBD2 engine and running gear cheap
