VW MK1 GLD

This car is a project car. Over time I have been collecting part for it to make a turbo diesel project to run on bio-diesel.
These cars are economical to run and will do around 5lts per 100km and better when tuned properly.
There was a TOP GEAR US episode where they put a Turbo Diesel in a MK1 and and got it to do 4lt per 100kms and 0-100kms in 7 seconds!!! Called project sipster

GOOD POINTS

Turbo Manifold and turbo off a mk2 turbo diesel
Rebuilt Head
Rebuilt injectors
Car has only 130xxx kms
solid rust free boots and floors
turbo manifold can be used on petrol equivalents
Interior is in good condition.
Spare Motor

NOT SO GOOD POINTS

Rust in the pillars
Surface rust has started
Has rust in one of the quarter panels
Current engine is not going due to cam belt letting go
Needs a need ignition barrel


regretful sale as twin daughters forces sale, ended up buying a mercedes wagon to fit all there gear

curious to know, outside of the cam belt replacement, whats left to do to make the motor TD?

Hey killing

You would have to replace the head with the rebuilt head. And while you were doing that you would have to replace the head bolts with torque to yield bolts. This is a known weakness when trying to turbo the 1.5 diesel. They are available from the US. This will help keep the head sealed better a higher pressures.

To get it to flow better, get a little more power, and to keep it a little cooler you would have I make a custom down pipe. This would be advisable as the 1.5s don't have piston coolers as standard.

So besides a new timing belt and the torque to yield bolts it would just be time putting it back together
