  • VIC Golf Mk2 GTI 2 Door FOR SALE

    2 door Golf GTI Mk2 1988 - Project

I am gutted but I have to part with this:

In my opionion the best of the Mk2s, a facelift small bumper version. I have owned this car for 10 years and don't really want to part with it but I am moving overseas so it has to go or I have to mothball it. The original owner is a friend of mine who had the car from new. I imported the car from UK in 2004 and it has been registered in Victoria since then. I had planned to sort the car out for Targa events but lack of available time has restricted me to a few club sprint events. This is a great car but it does need some work.

The car needs some work to fix some rust in the rear wheel arches and sills so will be sold without RWC. It is currently registered and in regular use. it is very straight, never crashed and still in original paint. The interior is in great condition apart from a couple of minor faults. The drivers carpet is a bit worn and the side support on the driver's seat needs new foam but otherwise it is very good and looks very cool with it's original black with grey tartan trim. The handling is very well sorted but the original engine is a little tired, although it still runs well and this is an awesome car to drive.

There is rust around the rear wheel arches, the car comes with repair panels to fix this. There is a bit of rust at the front of the driver's door sill. A coachbuilder recommended replacing the entire sill to retain the strength in the car so I have new ones for both sides. There is also rust around the rear side glass and on the rear panel where the "Golf GTI badge is. I have photos of the rust in detail, PM me with your e-mail addres if you are interested and want to see this, or come around and take a look.

Feel free to call me on 0417 351546 if you are interested and hava any questions. Car is located in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

The car has the following modifications:

    G-Max springs and dampers
Powerflex poly bushes (front and rear)
    OMP Front Lower strut brace
    OMP Rear strut brace
    K-Mac front camber brackets
Zimmerman cross drilled brake discs (front and rear)
Pagid high performance brake pads (front and rear)
    Goodridge braided steel brake hoses
    15x7 Zenders wheels
    Yokohama AO32R tyres (part worn)
    Momo leather steering wheel
    HID Driving lights

The car comes with the following spare parts:

    Brand new spares
TSR 4 in to 1 exhaust manifold
Supersprint exhaust system (complete Group N)
    Coolant hose set (complete)
Front bumper (with GTI red trim)
    Rear bumper (with GTI trim)
    GTI Grille with driving lights
Wheel arch trims and body side mouldings (complete set)
    Side decal set
    Rear window decal set
    Rear Golf GTI Badge
    Door sill panels
    Rear wheel arch repair panels
    ARP Crownwheel bolt set

    Spare Engine (dismantled)
Bottom end is ready to assemble and comes with
New rings (block has been honed)
New Engine bearings (Main and big end)
    New oil pump
    New water pump
    Engine gasket set
    New piper 285 hydraulic cam
    New cam follower set
    New head bolts
    New Timing Belt
    New Timing Belt tensioner

Cylinder head is complete but needs valves and seats re-finished.
It needs a set of conrod bolts as the ones I have are for a 1600 (ordered by mistake from ARP)
    Engine is complete but dismantled.

    Used spares
Original steel wheels with nuts and centre trims. Tyres fitted would pass RWC but are old.
    Original steering wheel.

    Price
    $4500.00 complete

... Just trying to work out how to post a photo now... It says I can not post attachments, how am I supposed to do this? ... Ah thanks Water Boy, some pictures have been posted further down the thread.

Thanks Water Boy. The car lives in the garage so it looks just the same, in fact they are better than the ones I was going to use. Good photos, I don't think I have seen them before!

Now I'm trying to remember what it was doing parked outside MPC... with other Golfs around? I would have been there for work I guess...

I'd say it's a false economy to ship this back to UK, these cars are dirt cheap in UK, everyone want to get rid of it while we in oz see it as a treasury. If you're in Sydney I'll seriously consider selling my 4 doors and jump into this. Good luck.

Yes you are right RedMk2Gti but I didn't bring it to Australia in the first place thinking that it was a sensible thing to do! If I take it back with me I won't be selling it so it doesn't really matter too much. I am effectively loosing money on it if I sell it at the price I am asking in any case.
I am in Melbourne. My moving date is 10th December so I need to do something before then.

No longer for sale as now it is going to sail! Just booked to ship back to UK on 11th December. I feel a road trip to Nurburgring coming on some time soon... Thanks to those who were interested but I'm actually pleased to be hanging on to it.

Good on ya for keeping it. Most of the ones in UK are rust buckets so you'll be taking a piece of history with you. I only wished I had brought my Mk1, or Mk3 GTi over when I moved here 9 yrs ago...........gutted that they sell over there for peanuts.

Thanks RedMk2Gti, I will get some pics on here. The conrod bolts arrived today so I can finish putting the bottom end together before the removal men arrive next week. I also just bought a MoTeC M800 ECU for it so I can get it running nice on the new engine.

dubstyle you are right, the rust in mine is fairly minor compared to what you would normally expect on a UK car, also it has never been crashed. They aren't worth that much but I don't really care about that, it's the car that counts to me not it's cash value.
