Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW FS - 2006 VW Polo Gti - $9K (mechanical issues)

    *** CAR NOW SOLD ***

Well the time has come for the lil Polo and I to part ways. She's served me well over the last 3 years of ownership but the lease is up and its time to move on. Details below:

    - 2006 Model
    - 154,000km
    - H&R Suspension
    - Rear sway bar
    - SEAT Intake
    - VR6 brake conversion with 312mm front and 280mm rear slotted and drilled discs
    - 17" rims (just Tempe specials, nothing fancy)
    - Pioneer F310BT stereo featuring touchsceen GPS and ipod connectivity
    - Car comes with original brakes and calipers as well as original rims should the buyer want them

Reason for sale is that basically the car is out of lease and due for an upgrade (company car), although also the car has run into some gearbox trouble recently which has forced the sale. Basically a reasonably common problem with 1st and reverse has developed (bit of noise in those gears, likely chipped a couple teeth) and the box needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

I have been quoted $2800 to replace the gearbox with a 2nd hand box with 31,000km on the clock. Can give all details for this quote to the seller, or if you can source the work cheaper (was quoted $1800 for the gearbox so you might find one cheaper elsewhere) then thats ok too. I have also purchased a new clutch which I'll throw in with the car so you can swap that at the same time to make it a completely new feeling gearbox.

Other than the gearbox problem car is running perfectly. No other mechanical problems to speak of, body and paint are in good condition and interior is perfect bar some wear on the floor mats but you get that after 6 years I suppose.

Selling the car as is for $9,000. Pretty firm on this price as this is about $3-4k below what they are going for on carsales so I think its a fair deal.

I am located in Caringbah and work in Newington (near homebush) for inspections.

Old brakes are featured in the below pics. Will take some new ones to show off the rims all filled out

Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting

    Hi Danish,

I noticed your carsales ad doesnt mention the gearbox issues. Has the issue been resolved since you posted this?
