  • VIC 1996 MkIII Golf VR6. White, 155,000km

Up for sale is my White '96 MkIII Golf VR6. I'm looking for $7,500.
It's in almost 100% original condition and I'm the second owner, having owned it since 53,000km.

It's been regularly serviced by Euroclass in Richmond and no expense has been spared in keeping this car in perfect running condition. The one exception to this is the ABS - which I'll get to in a minute...

For the past four or five years, it's been my wife's car so it's had a pretty easy life. It's recently had some bodywork completed (paintless dent removal) due to the hail storm that Melbourne experienced over Christmas last year, so the body and paintwork is in A1 condition.

There are almost brand-new tyres, having done less than 10,000km and a new windscreen has been fitted in order to get a roadworthy done.

The car is 100% stock standard with the exception of:
Stereo - JVC CD/MP3 head unit fitted when I bought it.
Pedals - Sparco aluminium pedal covers were fitted to replace the worn and slippery OEM rubber pedal covers.
ECU - GIAC Chip fitted to boost power slightly and improve midrange torque.
Driver's seat - Recovered in OEM materials and lumbar support installed.
Front Wipers - Aero wipers installed with brand-new blades.

Both the driver and passenger seats have had seat covers on them, so the fabric underneath the seat covers should be in mint condition. In the photos below you can see a tear in the seat cover on the driver's side seat, this is in the cover only and the fabric underneath is fine.

Now, to the ABS. This has been a bit of a saga, but to cut a long story short, it was one thing I didn't want to spend a huge amount of cash on to fix when it went bad a couple of years ago. My mechanic won't give me a roadworthy with the non-functional ABS. So, we've got two choices. I'm willing to drop the price if you've got mechanic you know who will give you a roady and overlook the ABS. Otherwise, if you want it with the ABS working, I'm going to be relatively firm on the price as it's going to cost me to fix it.

Now for the pictures. I can't figure out how to embed the photos from Dropbox into this forum, so there's a gallery here:

Yeah, I tried that. Now when I view your reply they all come up as the question-mark in a box "missing image" icon, yet I can click on the actual text links that came through in my notification email and they work...

      Thanks for looking though...

I'll be sad to see it go, it's been a fantastic car over the years but there's simply no room in the driveway for it now that the missus has a Tiggy...

C'mon, someone out there must want a clean, unmolested VR6 - this car is the perfect base for either a fun daily driver or as the beginning of a project. Make me an offer before I put it on Carsales!

What have they told you is the issue with the ABS? & How much were you quoted to fix?

It might pay to add a couple of pictures with the seat covers off too, otherwise looks pretty good.

The ABS pump module is giving readings that are out of range.
It's about $800 to fix with a locally-sourced reconditioned part, or less than that with a part off eBay.

I'd take a photo without the seat covers, however they're the types that tie down onto the seats, so are a pain to take off.

If anyone is really interested though, let me know and I'll get some pictures for you...
