  • VIC 1979 Mk1 GLI UK-Import k-jet, sunroof etc

We have come to realise that we will never have time to finish this car so its up for sale.

The car is a personally imported 1979 GLI 4door.
    EN 8v K-jet engine
    Auto
    Air con
    187,000km
Sun roof (original...including the $250 NOS seal )
    Mk2 GTI seats
    Super clean interior
    Plastic bumpers and arches (original)
Will cone with twin headlight grill (original also)

    History:
I bought this car when I was 16. It was very mint inside, drove well and had ridiculously low KM. As it was suffering the usual rust issues and I had a couple of years before i could drive it we started stripping it to respray it. All rust was removed and repaired and the car was sprayed from silver to white.
As we started to re-assemble the car other things in life got in the way and progress slowed. Eventually I traded my dad the mk1 for a mk2 and the car followed his vision.
While putting the interior back together he did a suede roof liner and fitted mk2 seats.
The next step was to tidy up the motor, sort the suspension and get it on the road as it was meant to be used as a daily but unfortunately my dads bad back got worse and a few other projects of my own stopped me from finishing it.

The rear lights, engine, gearbox, k-jet, sunroof, dash, trim, arches and the 1979 date are all original
The things that are not original to the car are the blatantly obvious. The steering wheel, the mk2 gti seats, aftermarket air con. I'm not to sure about the wheels, they do have more dish than your normal mk1 stock wheel but I can't imagine someone going out of there way to add a touch more dish to a stock mk1 wheel.

You may have not heard of a GLI or a 79 with that dash or light or blah blah but neither did I until i spent ages researching it way back when, i even emailed PVW to get more info and the car is legit. My understanding was it was between GLS and GTI.....or something like that.

To get it on the road it will need a bit of TLC.
If I bought it, i would reco the head, change bushers where needed, change the windshield rubbers, get new shocks and springs if not coilovers and sort out any wiring issues that we may have missed when re-installing the interior. Given more time I would have probably painted the engine bay as well.

I would like to see it go to a good home, someone who will keep it relatively original (i have the original badges btw) and appreciate its uniqueness.

I dunno what else to say about it, kindo hard to let it go.....
If you have any questions send me a PM
Please no time wasters.....if i had time to waist I wouldn't be selling it

    $2500

That's a very good buy and find, its half way there, all you would do if put a manual and coilovers, wheels, your done.
love the factory sunroof. very hard to find in aus.

Should sell no probs to the right guy who knows what its worth.
