  • Looking at selling my golf GTI VI MY11

    Hi all

Not sure if this is in the right place, sorry to mods if it is not.

Looking at selling my MY11.5 VI GTI.

    Has:

German built, March 11 build, arrived OZ in June.
    Candy white
    DSG
    full leather Vienna
    Sunroof
    Detroits 18"
    MDI
    Bluetooth
    Aftermarket tint all round, octane.
    Boot liner.
    Only 6000 km
June 2012 rego, yes I have had it for less than a year.

Is in absolute mint condition inside and out, always garaged, washed regularly, babied, never raced, treated nicely, no mods.

Reason: need to buy a 4wd to tow a van, so it is a very reluctant sale. Unfortunately can't afford to own both

Not sure on price but was thinking maybe low to mid 40s. Any feedback on price welcome.

    James

    D: God damn I wish P-plate regulations didn't exist.

As far as price go I would have aimed at $39, 990 or something because I've seen new (mostly 2011 ones) DSG GTI's for ~$40, 000. Must remember that options on the car won't give much in resale value, they act as more of an eye-catcher to buyers. Also if this helps on price guideline ( i know mine wasn't a golf or gti but it might help - also the DSG had problems), I sold my Polo TDI DSG7 w/ sport pack and X-pack full protection at 6 months in age and only 1450kms on the odo (still had new car smell) and it sold for $25, 990 and bought for total price of ~$31, 500.

Good luck with the sale man.

yeah unfortunately options don't add (or have little) value come trade in time. Nor can you charge the full RRP back for them.

Problem with selling so new is you lose all the onroad costs (about $5-6k off the moment you drive out the door, as well as the GST and stamp duty component), and first year depreciation is around 20%. By year 4, all cars are probably worth 50%-55% of their original value. Lesser marques like Land Rover, Alfa and the french cars probably dump even more.

Doesn't help that VW gives generous corporate discounts, as that is factored into the used car market so hurts those that don't benefit.

A wholesaler once told me something funny about Audi's which usually have horrible resale - you pay Mercedes prices new, but sell at VW prices used!

Upgrading to a 'bigger' car from a golf can sometimes be a misnomer too - the verstile hatch can load more than most large sedans!

As the OP is selling his car, and this is borderline a "For Sale" thread, I'm moving it to the Cars For Sale or Wanted to Buy forum, where hopefully it'll get visibility by those wanting to buy a second hand GTI.

If there's a need for a dedicated thread on resale values, beyond the resources at redbook and carsales, then we can create one in the appropriate place.
