  • VIC WTB Black MKIV Golf GTI or A3 1.8T - Noob seeks first time VAG

I've quit fiddling with Jap and Aussie cars and am now in the market for a MKIV Golf GTI or A3 1.8T.

    Wish list:

    Black
    <150,000km
    Manual
    Service History
Timing belt and water pump replaced
    Leather interior
Nothing to spend (other than for mods)

Will consider variations to this basic wish list (i.e black/grey cloth interior) if the price/value proposition is right.

    Located in Melbourne.

    Cheers,

    Adrian.

Cheap ones seem to be non-existent, silver, higher km's or have the wrong colour interior.

Budget wise, prepared to pay up to $14,000 for <100,000km, leather interior, recent timing belt/waterpump change, black - < $10,000 for higher kms, black/grey cloth interior - This is for a Golf.

Less for a silver car (must be a real bargain to persuade me)

For an Audi the rules change:
Must be 3 door, black or dark blue with leather interior, but pay less than for an equivalent golf (market dictates they're fetching less).

Have you considered a s3? There a bit more but you won't regret it.

S3 would be superb - but I can't imagine there are many low km examples under 15k and located in Victoria

Bought mine with 200000 on it 3 years ago for $16500. There's plenty below $15000 these days. Mine is on 240K now and going like a train. Admittedly it's coming due for some maintenance, like another cambelt. I just replaced the suspension with coilovers and you'll find the front wishbone rear bushes will be shagged.

Low ks on a VW or Audi is just a waste as long as the bodywork is good, everything else can be fixed.

Bit uncomfortable with the k's, but look like good cars. Unfortunately don't have the time to travel interstate to check these cars out

Buying a VW/Audi might not be your best choice then!

PM "intensem1". Alex has a super clean R32-kitted Mk4 GTI in black. He's located in Adelaide though, but he's a good chap.
                        Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
                        Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

have you considered a Polo gti? same 1.8T engine but a much newer car. plenty out there for under $15k.

Although just checking, man s3' have dropped in price heaps.....

                          Good luck

I've been speaking with Alex, if only he was in Victoria! Would have been perfect.

I do like the Polo's, but haven't really looked at them too closely....yet.

It will only cost around $500 to bring it down or fly up there and drive back
