  • NSW 80,000km 1997 Manual VR6 - NSW - Sydney

    PRICE DROP TO $8,000!

I'm looking to get into a newer VW due to the distances I now have to go to work each week and its time for my VR6 to go.

It is now on carsales as you see here:

1997 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF VR6 Hatch Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au

This is my 1997 MK3 VR6 manual with 80,558 genuine k's on the clock, I have paperwork to support this (not just a dash swap) and have owned this car from October 2008 have have only driven 8,000 in that time frame. I owned this car throughout my uni days and I've since grown out of it to be perfectly honest and want to get into a newer VW like a Jetta V or even a Skoda.

The car has recently been to Camden GTI and now has a new set of tyres on a set of BBS RC's 16x7.5 ET35 wheels (with new centrecaps) and rego till Nov 2012.

You can view them in large here: Volkswagen Golf VR6 - For Sale - a set on Flickr

    Parts replaced/repaired (since 200
    Coilpack (this year)
    Plugs (this year)
    Leads (this year)
    New Battery (Nov 2011)

    Waterpump
    Coolant hoses (upper / lower)
    Accessory belt tensioner
    Transmission mount
    Front wheel bearings
    Strut mounts
Zimmerman cross drilled & slotted front brakes & new pads

    Note
    Air con works
    Heater core works
    ABS works
    Dash & MFA functions work
All 4 window regulators have been replaced and work (latest being drivers side last week)
Wipers front and back inc. washer jets work

    Accessories
Car comes fitted with new wheels & tires as mentioned before, and a wheel alignment has been done.
Car also comes fitted with JOM height adjustable coilovers
Car comes with genuine Thule roof racks inc. locks and the original key
Car comes with Hayman Reese towbar and the rear skirt has been cut to fit it.
    Front aero wipers

JVC stereo with new JVC speakers throughout
    Custom leather wrapped steering wheel
GTI 4 gear knob and shifter
Headliner was replaced with a new item
Front headlight Joey modded and sealed with aquarium silicone, no light output loss & no internal condensation.
Car comes with 2 sets of keys

Replaced the exhaust (backbox and two small mufflers) and included a new 200CEL catalytic converter
Custom K&N cold air intake - steel intake box with shielding, works great and sounds fantastic

the not so great, inc. every little thing
Car has a dent on the left passenger side from when I accidentally hit a ute tray some time ago. This will either be replaced or re-sprayed at my own cost if car is sold
Key barrel needs to be clicked back, I have a replacement with keys if need be
Clock spring damaged & broken clamshell
Front bumper is scraped on the front left from previous owner, front grill has a small dent
The front tires rub (not dramatically) on potholes and big bumps
The car is quite loud and it bothers me

    FREEBIES!
Car comes with a number of freebies starting with a set of 15x6 Audi A3 alloys (with tyres) in mint condition and they look like these, but with no centrecaps:

900 Page Bently Service Manual - essential for any MK3 owner
Cross drilled and slotted Zimmerman rear discs
    Bendix rear pads
    Braided stainless steel brake lines
    Handbrake cables
Replacement key barrel with 2 keys
Intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower)
    Thermostat & thermostat housing
3L of Nulon manual transmission fluid
And a bunch of other service parts that I can't remember off the top of my head

So what can I say, you get a lot here and these VR6's are becoming increasingly rare in drivable let alone serviceable condition. This car is drive away and you can hop into this immediately, quite unlike pretty much every other VR6 on the market which needs timing chains and overhauls. I get 500k's from a tank and have only EVER run the car on 98 unleaded, I get approximately 8L/100 on the highway and around 10.5L/100 in city traffic but the car is just running highway k's atm.

For this reason the car is $8000 this is primarily because of the almost 11 months rego (U25's green slip), new tyres and those fantastic BBS wheels which are finally on the car & a new battery. Price is negotiable based around whats already on the car and the freebies available.

This would be a fantastic first entrance into performance VW's for anyone and is in nice condition for its age.

    BONUS!
I work part time as a photographer out of 9 to 5 and I'm offering a one free photo shoot of the car for the new owner of the car. This wouldn't be some boring photos shooting on ambient in a carpark but a real shoot with off camera lights and a proper location inc. editing & unlimited use of the images. This is normally valued at $450 but you can get it for free if you buy the car.

If you would like to know more or would like come and see the car either at Picnic point 6pm onwards and on weekends, or alternatively at Wetherill Park in working hours; please contact me on 0420597602 or PM me or email @ bkragovic@gmail.com and I'd be more than happy to answer and questions. I'm also happy to accommodate for interstate buyers inc. delivery (at your cost) if need be.

I'd also consider a trade (plus cash on my end) for a MKV golf in manual or a Skoda and/or Audi between 12-16k in value.

    Cheers, Branko.

Thanks vwratt, good luck finding a VR6 to suit your needs

Bug_racer: I'd consider it if the car sells with the other set of wheels, otherwise they'll stay on the car just like everything else on it.

Wow what a beautiful low km VR6

I'm tempted, is that an original paint colour?

Have you still got all the original stock parts?

It would be good if you can post some interior shots i.e is it leather?

Hi there Robbie, I've unfortunately thrown out most of the stock parts like the shocks (shot) and the air filter as they were damaged or hindered the car as in the case with the blocked up exhaust & cat from when I bought it.

I still have a set of 15's, and if the exhaust bothers you as it probably does me I'd be more than happy to put in a suitcase if someone were to buy the car at its current (or near) price.

The colour is an original and its called hot chilli red, its very vibrant and is one of those pearl effects that VW did up until the late 90's. I'll go through and take a few interior shots. The car is quite clean and although a few odds and ends are missing in the interior (rear grab handle) but I have everything to put back into place, I simply haven't gotten around to it as nobody else is in the car but me almost all of the time.

I've also updated some details about the condition and where the car can be viewed.

Oh and it has a stock interior with near new interior carpets & a perfectly intact parcel shelf, bar of course the gaiter + MKIV shifter and the leather wrapped steering wheel which I think is quite luxurious haha...

              Hi Branko,

I'll wait for the interior pics as I am quite interested, has it ever been involved in an accident?

I'm just umming and arghiing about the paint colour, whether it's worth giving it the original black or white. Is it like a Candy apple red?

I just want a daily/project to keep the kms low on the R32 and keeping it mint.

Has the heater core been replaced on this one as I know its a common problem, and it can become quite a mess to fix up.

                Hi Robbie,

Nothing significant as far as I can tell and the car is quite straight, with the exception of the damage on the RL door there really isn't anything I am aware of. The car is 15 years old, I'm sure its been in some kind of shunt during its life.

The colour is actually quite nice on a bright day its a very vibrant plum red colour with a metallic through it, I'll take some proper photos tomorrow and you'll see what I mean.

The heater core hasn't been replaced as its never been broken, likewise with the air conditioning which runs cold. The car as mentioned before has had all 4 window regulators replaced relatively recently, along with the working ABS. You'd be hard pressed to find a VR6 with all 4 working really, and each job is 6-800 to repair at the least when you look at it.

The car is also ridiculously fun with great grip and so much torque, I'm certainly going to miss it when I get into something rather unexciting next...

Love the colour and colour-coding (same as my old one), pics can't do it justice, when that colour is nice and polished it has a real depth to it. Not sure if I'll use my spare front left guard, but it's the same colour factory off the car itself and has the same oval repeater. Pretty mint (hidden away in the shed somewhere) was going to use it on the Vento but it's not going anywhere for now if you need it (although QLD is a bugger).
