Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW EOI: 1981 VW Rabbit LS Cabriolet

    Here we go again,

So here is what was supposed to be my next bag of fun. Unfortunately I cant hang onto the car any longer and will let it go for the right offer. This car came to me from its first owner in Victoria, he had imported it in 1988 from the US for his Wife to drive, she never got her licence, long story short it sat in storage for almost 20 years until i snatched it up not too long ago. It is a 1981 Rabbit/ Golf Cabriolet but its also a limited Wolfsburg edition hence the uber nice interior, pin stripes etc. It has 69,000 kms believe it or not this is actually higher than the actual kms as the owner has the original cluster (working on getting this sent), you can feel how fresh the engine is for yourself. Paint is in overall could condition obviously after such time in storage a polish would bring it up very nicely.

Upon receiving the car i serviced it meticulously in order not to damage anything in the process of restarting the engine, it now lives and breathes fantastically and the 1.6 k-jet is paired with a 5 speed original gearbox.

    Work Completed:
    - All fluids drained and replaced (coolant, oil, gearbox oil, fuel, etc)
    - All filters replaced
    - Spark Plugs replaced
    - Fuel Distributor and air flap mechanism replaced with a volvo 240 set up (common replacement)
    - Brand new Battery
    - Mk2 Steel wheels with roadworthy tyres (original set included)
    - New fuel pump
    - New seat rail guides supplied but not installed
    - Working instrument cluster supplied but not installed
    - New wiper blades

    The Bad (Faults):
    - Cluster (rev meter and speedo) not working but as mentioned working cluster supplied
    - Coolant leak from around radiator not sure if it could be just cause i filled it too high anyway the leak is not ridiculous
    - Appears to have A/C but obviously is not working at this time

Overall it drives well I've taken it on long drives and hasnt given me one hiccup. The car is not registered. Any further questions please call or txt me on 0452 339 052 or pm me happy to answer questions anytime.

    Looking for $5,500 firm.

    Thank you,

    Dom

Thanks Rob yeah it's a rare find and is in awesome condition all round, unfortunately now working full time etc I don't have the time to get this to the point I initially wanted. Although that said if it doesn't sell for what I want I'll make it worth my while.

nah mate that is actually part of the car its metal/ steel cant tell if its structural, from what i can see originally there was an under dash compartment that covered it all but when the dash was swapped this was ditched/ lost. Ive got the under dash from an s2 dash but it doesnt fit.
