Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hey Guys,

I have my GT TDI advertised on Carsales and thought I would post the link here as well to see if there is any interest. It has been meticulously maintained, regular services, always garaged. It's currently running a Viezu (Chipped UK ST3) remap and has since 2009, car is much smoother and quicker than stock (125kw / 350 Nm) and has claimed power improvement figures of 151kw and 415Nm. I consistently average 800 + kms per tank and it usually takes no more than 50 litres (55litre tank) to refill it. This is with a combination of city / hwy driving and spirited at times =) I think a 1000 k's per tank on a trip would be achievable. The reason for selling is that I am looking at upgrading to a new model VW.

Looking for $33,500 including tune or $33,000 without. Car is absolutely immaculate (like new)

    Please PM with any enquiries.

    Cheers
    Russ

            Thanks Robbie,

I think Cam has already made plans for Sunday which involves an RNS 510 install in his new GTI =) Next car will probably be a new Polo but been looking at the 77TSI with DSG, from what I've read, with a remap they will make near 100kw which should make it a fairly quick little beast I took a 77TSI Golf DSG out for a test drive last weekend and considering the size of the car to the size of the engine they go surprisingly well, it won't leave a trail of ripped bitumen like the GT but considering the Polo is a fair bit lighter and once the remap is applied it should get along quite nicely. Anyway if I really have the need for speed I'll just go for a run with Cam in the GTI

              Sort of OT:
I have a friend who owns a Skoda Octavia RS (which is basically a Golf MkV GTi with a different body) with a remap and he couldn't drag off another friend's (former) stock Polo 77kW TSi DSG (w Sports Pack) when they did a comparison up to 100km/h.

The lightish weight and DSG make it a very responsive car.

The only problem is that your ST-3 won't be able to remap it as it can't communicate with the newer ECU (it will work with the Polo GTi ).

The guy I purchased the ST3 unit from in the UK is looking into for me to see if there is a tune available that will work with the unit. If not, I'm sure there will someone wiling to purchase the unit and have a map made to suit there vehicle. There is a guy on the forum who is offering remaps on the 77TSI ($830AU) and it doesn't include the tuning box for DIY so it can't be removed prior to servicing or if warranty work needs to be done. I like having that option and for the price being asked I think it should include the box IMO) Our VW dealer is pretty good like that, last time the GT went in for a service I told them I had the ECU tune on it and asked them not to flash it. They were fine about it =)

I fully understand - I have a V-Switch which is what Viezu (formerly ChippedUK) now call the same box. It is used by loads of tuners to remap ECU as they don't have to worry about the ECU interfacing so they can concentrate on the remap coding.

The actual unit is called a PowerGate II and is made by AlienTech (PowerGate II S to be precise since we get sold the single vehicle version). If you check the vehicle compatibility list, you will see that the 6R Polo 77kW TSi is not supported. The GTi is supported because that engine is the same as the Golf 118 TSi with the MED17 ECU which the PowerGate II can remap.

DNA Tuning, who do the 77kW TSi remap that you mentioned, also use the PowerGate II S as the SRS-II (which is what my friend's Octavia has been remapped with).

What would you want for the ST3 if you don't sell it with the Golf and get the 77kW TSi Polo? (if the buyer was silly enough not to want to keep the switchable car tune).

Thanks for the info, I just checked up on the 66TDI and it doesn't appear to be supported either as yet =( Hopefully Superchips will come out with a Bluefin Tune for it or one of the other tuners will offer something similar including the switchable tuning box.

PM sent regarding a price for the ST3.

                              Hey guys,

Thanks for the advice and offer of the RCD500, I'm not too concerned about pulling the RNS from the car as Cam is going to give me his RCD510 after he fits his recently purchased RNS510 to his new GTI. I don't watch DVD's in the car anyway and I have a really good Sat Nav unit I can plug in whenever I need to get directions. I'm old school and find the quality of the stock VW headunits more than satisfy my sound needs.
