Thanks for all replies - I have fixed her up now with a nice little Renault Clio - not quite as good as a VW of course
but seems a solid car.
More in hope than expectation:
I need a car for my daughter to finish her L's and run for her initial P's - she doesn't get on with her mother's car and mine is not suitable for her to rock up for her test in.
A MK IV Golf would be just perfect. Needs to be manual and must have ABS, 1.6 would probably be better than 2.0 if only for the fuel economy when she has to buy her own. No GTIs need apply!
High(ish) mileage is fine provided it comes with decent service records - I'm assuming anyone on this forum would be looking after their cars. I have about $6 max to spend.
