Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Wow, 76 views and no responses.

Detailed yesterday and all I can say is Dodo Red Mist over Dodo Purple Haze soft wax makes the black really "pop". Looked shiny and wet this morning in the sun.

Will go on carsales as soon as I have pics up.

I just wish I had a decent camera and a clue about photography to make it look even better. Still, somewhere here to look at it today.

Went for test drive today. Left in sunshine and it clouded over while we were out, but when I got home again it looked like it had snowed - the ground was covered in hail. Freakish that we missed it completely.

Now almost 26000kms. Will have its 30000km service early next Tuesday for good measure. Nothing to spend.

Price now dropped a smidgen more. Still a great car.

probably because the price is too high? majority of the prices on carsales are way too high, low demand high supply. There are close to 100 mkv gti's on carsales. Considering yours doesn't have sat nav and is only manual, i think you would have a better chance if it is under 30k.

Majority of people on carsales are dreaming, thinking they would only lose 10k for a car which is 2-3 years old lol very very optimistic.

Den, you may have a point, but in fairness, I don't think this is the place to discuss it. A PM for advice or a post in the MkV forum re:prices would be more suitable. imho

It's 21 months old and has led a charmed life, no mods, never tracked, regularly detailed. Low kms to boot. Factory warranty for over a year remaining. Everyone knows options add nothing to resale value. And I am negotiable.

And "only manual" - purlease! Not only is this the driver's choice but its a safer bet for your wallet too. What's a DSG failure run to - is it $10K? Not to mention the extra whack when the DSG needs servicing.

I don't really want to sell, more a lifestyle choice. So if I can't get a decent price I'll keep it. It's a keeper kind of car, so I could do much worse.

Was that an offer at $30K! I talk around that...

I think the price is reasonable, bloody hell 2nd hand GTIs are asking alot, but I guess at the end of the day it's worth what someone's willing to pay...

i'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just saying if you really want to sell the car (which it seems like you are, with numerous amount of posts) then you should consider dropping the price, thats all.

You lose 30-35% of your car's value within the first 2 years. You probably paid what just over or under 40k for the car? and you are looking to sell for 33k? hence why i said a bit unrealistic. I'm sure you are doing what most people do on carsales, setting a price like 5k above the actual value and give room for negotiations.

Everyone knows options add nothing to resale value?? really? That is what sellers seem to say. In a sense you are right, but when there are 100 other identical cars, with very similar price tags, i'm sure people would pick the same car with a sat nav in it over one without, just common sense right?

Manual vs dsg are personal preference. On a side note, you would be surprised how many people prefer auto over manual in any cars. Oh and dsg doesn't fail very often, and it would be covered by warranty, yes dsg needs servicing, but the dsg is a much better technology.

I also think people are not considering the fact that there is a new gti out there. So a 2nd hand gti for 33k which is 2 years old, or a brand new one with similar specs drive away for 40k. Before the new one came out, people can sell it at higher prices, because it is still the current model.

anyways if you you don't mind waiting, good luck. Ps. once again i'm not trying to argue
