Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Mark 3 Golf 5 door 1.8 manual

    I purchased this car recently as a project. But sudden change of plans says that it has to sadly move on. It is currently unregistered. Car runs and drives smooth. Has 120,000 original Kms on the clock. It is completely stock, other than the new front after-market plastic bumper which was been recently replaced.

    Work that is still required;

    Aircond needs re-gas
    Windscreen has crack on passenger side
    Timing belt kit (included) needs to be fitted (though the one on there looks ok)

    Cosmetically , attention to following would bring the car back to showroom condition;

    drivers seat lumbar is crushed/Worn from use
    headlining in places is sagging (not badly)
    two gashes in carpet on drivers side
    slight crazing on RH rear door window surround
    Slight buckle/ding on rear LH guard

    I would love to keep this car as there isn't a great deal required to make this a very nice looking ride, and to be perfectly honest, it would make a reliable, daily driver immediately.

    I am looking for offers around $2200 in its current state.

    Happy to accomodate inspections by appointment.

    Its a CL, if a 1.8 presumably.
    What are the tyres like?
    Any log books?
    Paint looks good, do you know where has it lived?
    Usually re-gas is a symptom, not a cure.
    Do you know how long has it been unregistered?
    Good luck with the sale.

      Thanks for raising these points;

      Definitely a CL model
      Tyres are excellent, more than 80%
      Log book there and depicts a good service history
      Paint is excellent, with some minor scratches in places, but to be
      expected for a car this age
      Re-gas is required because the condensor has been replaced due to puncture
      I originally bought this from Micks Motors about 4 months ago, he had it in his yard for about 2 months - thats how long its been unregistered
