Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes you read that correctly. This is a mk1 with a 1.9 TDI engine.

    Mk1 golf 1977 GLS 2dr

Miami Blue paint. Paint is ok in places but has a few patches of surface rust
Rust repaired (welded, not bogged) around windscreen and has been sprayed with a darker blue to seal it.

1.9 1Z Turbocharged direct injection engine
Modified mechanical injector pump from AAZ engine
k04-22 turbo - brand new with engine build
16v alternator bracket with brand new mk3 alternator.
large front mounted intercooler with 2" stainless piping
Full custom 2.5" exhaust with washable diesel catalytic converter
5spd manual diesel gearbox (long ratio)
    Deleted EGR
    Cordoba airbox
New timing belt & head gasket installed with conversion.

    Suspension
    Coilovers all round (hot-tuning equivalent)
New tie rods and wishbone bushes recently
    front lower chassis brace
front and rear sway bars are available but not on car at the moment

    Wheels

14 inch vw/audi Ronals. Well worn but could be restored
Brand New Pirelli P6 front tyres (200k's on them)
Old worn tyres on the back

    Brakes
    front: mk1 gti ventilated
rear: mk3 drums, brand new cylinders
    SEAT cordoba booster

Blue GLS spec interior (mostly original)

    UNCRACKED reskinned dash
Sealed front quarter windows (no leaks or silicon!)
parcel shelf with no speaker holes
new gas strut on rear hatch
Rear seats in great condition, but front seats are worn in places
boost and oil pressure guages (oil pressure is not connected yet)
speedo works but tacho is not connected yet (alternator has W terminal so can be done with some electronics work)

This is a great car. In my opinion the TDI motor is an ideal setup for a mk1 golf that gets driven regularly. The conversion was done slowly over many months by me and another diesel-vw-loving mechanical engineer. No shortcuts taken to get it done properly.

I get 4.5 L/100k's on the open road, and 5.5 around town (even when driving like I stole it).

The suspension is very hard, but could be fixed by winding up the coilovers or putting in standard struts, or getting softer springs for the coilovers.

I have done about 15000 clicks since I installed the motor, and it still starts first time every time and runs smoothly.
Car has 7 months rego (until 22 may)

Be quick to ensure you end up with this great unique car..

    PRICE: $5500 Negotiable

    testimonial

Guys, just in aid of Mikes post here:

I helped him build this car from the start. the engine/gearbox combination is so good in hte lightweight mk1 and the shell is straight (never been in accident), the car just drives great.

a true mk1 you can keep and live with - drive it everywhere and for little cost.

Best of luck with the sale, I hope someone on here gets it,
    Aydan

        and more

I know these photos don't sell the car too well, but I aim to be honest about the condition of the car considering I want to sell it to an enthusiast anyway. This is all the rust in the car. I hope my honesty pays off.

"gldgti" said its as straight as a die. I think its far from it, but for its age its not too bad and whoever gets it will probably try to restore it.
That jack and few engine oil containers in the boot dont help the sale but like you said, you're just trying to be as honest as you can which is very much appreciated.

Wish you all the best with the sale, i loved these cars when i lived overseas...people over there sure do know how to do these things up.

I think anyone who uses a standard mk1 jack, or doesn't carry spare oil would have to be very lucky or very silly

            thanks for the support

haha great last comment there "mollins", but unfortunately true. But look at the bright side, we love these VW's and whoever doesnt like to get their hands a bit dirty from time to time isnt worthy of having a VW in their driveway haha.

i think for all the imperfections this car has, they can be happily overlooked from the amount of work gone into it. it's a 1z m-tdi... they simply dont exist here...

loved the build, guys. Good luck with the sale.
