Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I think you should put some detail in your post. $18k for a 2010 looks nuts until you bother to read the advertisment.

Thanks Brad, but I would have thought that it would have raised some curiosity, as it obviously has with you, to realise that this is not your average 2010 model. As you can see this thing is fully loaded with thousands spent. Cheers

That’s a screenshot from Carsales showing prices for all sales Redbook have recorded. I guess it shows that there are very few modified ones getting sold with their knowledge but perhaps they’ve all been sold on Gumtree or people hang on to their modified cars a lot longer.

I’m considering going down the modification route with my R, once it’s out of warranty and wondering how to calculate what to charge for the mods. If cars basically devalue by 15% a year (https://dogandlemon.com/sites/defaul...ustralia_0.pdf) then the same should be applied to the money spent on mods.

One of the biggest problems with Carsales and other sites is you never know what people actually got for the car when sold so it’s hard to use advertised prices when trying to work out how to price your car.

I wonder if there’s a different site where people advertise modified cars.

Mods "depreciate" far more than the car. The pool of buyers is smaller too as they (usually wrongly) think the car has been thrashed.
