1.8T 20V non VVT head to VVT conversion

So I'm going with large port AGU head for my Polo's 1.8T build. Given that its large port and also that I wont be using a huge sized turbo, I'm pretty keen to convert this head over to VVT operation. The aim of this is not just for the VW cold starts but to use intake advance throughout the rev range...

Can a blocked oil pickup cause chain rattle? Or affect the VVT?

Car is a MK6 GTI 2010 Totally Stock

I have some chain noise around 2.5k rpm and 4.5k rpm and off throttle when the car has warmed up to operating temperature.

I had taken it to a couple of garages and they suspected either the Timing Chain Streatched or Intake Camshaft VVT...
