Hi all, have been reading up on changing the 5th gear ratio to help with fuel economy on the highway.
Back story is I will be buying a polo Tdi 1.9 to drive from Sydney to Goulburn for work, wanted to get 5th gear sitting as low as possible in the rev range as I’ll be sitting at about 120kph....

Has anyone changed their 5th gear so your engine isn’t screaming when cruising on the highway? What ratio have people gone with? I was thinking 0.66 but would love to hear from anyone else whose done it?

my old gear box will be up for grabs once I pick it up.
everything seemed to be ok except for 5th gear which I believe is stripped or similar, ideal opportunity to change the ratio.
selling as I've changed to a shorter ratio box
