SO long story short, my front bumper got caught on a gutter at maccas and ripped off.

When i got home after some i inspected and found a dodgy fix on the front bumper, so i'm guessing this isnt the first time this has happen.

After some reconstruction...

The undertray of my 2008 1.8tsi manual is only half-length & has a couple of NACA ducts on the passenger side - I assume to cool the gearbox.
It looks approximately like this (this is leading edge pointing upwards):
