125tdi 210,000 km service..water pump replacement??

I'm nearly due for the 210,000 km service. The timing belt is being replaced which I expected, but i was told that the water pump also gets replaced as part of the scheduled service. Is someone yanking my chain or has this become the norm with the 125tdi engine? It puts the service cost over the 1500...

New to Wasser VW

I've just purchased a new B7 Passat Wagon. its a 130TDI Highline. It now shares the garage with my 1966 VW Karmann Ghia Cabriolet which is a full bare metal restoration project.
