Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1985 Thousand Lakes Rally

With thanks to Rally Sport Magazine

Rally fans vividly remember the 1980s as the 'wild days' for world rallying, when the Group B Supercars reigned supreme, and when 600 horsepower monster literally did wheel-stands under power.

We've tracked down the 1985 1000 Lakes Rally on YouTube - the event when the flame-spitting Audi Quattro Sport S1 made its debut.

The rally that year was a perfect showcase for the Group B projectiles with the category at its peak. All the big guns were competing that year, including Markku Alen, Hannu Mikkola, event and championship winner Timo Salonen, Henri Toivonen, Bjorn Waldegard, Stig Blomqvist, Juha Kankkunen, Per Eklund, Pentti Airikkala, Kalle Grundel (deputising for the injured Ari Vatanen), and Lasse Lampi.

Other vehicles included the Lancia Rally 037 (driven to the max by Alen), the Peugeot 205 T16 E2, Toyota Celica Turbo, the Audi Quattro A2, and many more.

Sit back and enjoy the action!
