AC work, NE suburbs

I need to get my AC compressor replaced, looking at either supplying my own, or having the shop itself supply a new one (would it have warranty on it then?).
Last AC place found the leak was coming from it but quoted me $1,000+ to get it replaced O_O, not something I can cough up easily so want to see what's out there.
