Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Warranty on repairs

My Golf VI 118 TSI is 2 years old and I had the engine replaced about a year ago (@15,000 km).

Last month they had to replace my clutch pack (DSG) and today I had Megatronics replaced. No need to go into detail how pissed off I am with the VW lemonade ...

My car is leased and I have another 2 years to go, before selling it (the very first day that I'm out of lease). That means the last year will be running it without the VW warranty. With the car history so far, it will be a risky business. Yes, there is an extended warranty but I really don't feel l need to pay $2,000 because I was sold a lemon.

I'm just checking the service report and on the bottom left it states: "For all retail work performed by xxxxxxx Volkswagen, genuine / exchange / accessories VW parts are covered by a 24 month/2 yr unlimited km warranty."

The confusion is with the word "retail". Does the above mean that my mechatronics, that was replaced as a warranty repair is also covered or does it only apply to "retail work", i.e. if my car was out of warranty and I have paid for the repair (if my definition of 'retail work' is correct).
