  • What to do with my car...

    Hi guys,
As my brief post in the MK4 section a tree branch fell on my car last friday. No structural damage, paint removed on the boot, rear bumper and one other panel that runs around hte side of the car(not sure of its name), and some random one on the bonnet, and a LOT of scrathes.

So after getting a number of quotes around town i was told my insurance probably wouldnt cover the paint damage on the side or the bonnet, but the bumper and boot would needed to be resprayed due to being deep and rather visible (even to my mum who doesnt car about my car).

Went to my insurance company (who we have 4 cars with and perfect rating)) and had a assessor look at the car... he told me it will "all buff out"... i said but its through the paint? which he continued with "yes, itll buff out"...

So pretty much gave up on that idea straight away.

Im now left with what to do; do i leave it, sell the car, or fix it.

    I want your thoughts...

mechanically the car is good, and lately spent some coin on things like coilovers, sway bar, spacers, new keys, floor mats blahblahblah.

    Cheers, Dylan

maybe try getting it cut/buffed/polished first, and then decide from there?

Also, I'd try ringing up your insurance co if you weren't happy with the assessor and get them to send another one out, especially since you have 4 policies with them, I don't think they'd be keen on losing that kind of business

Might try giving them a call about having another assessor look at it.

I'll see what they say and then have a cut and polish done as you said.

I think if your happy to stay with the black car, then keep it and get all the imperfections fixed up and get it all spiffy again then mabye just a few minor mods ie. some nice oem wheels (audi or vw) preferably not 8" wide hehe , update things like globes, paint valance, mabye a new grill, dark side markers just for some examples,
Little things that don't cost alot can have the biggest effect.

Or if you don't like the black anymore i would update to the 4 motion and go a different colour.

Let insurance pay for the buffing then complain when it doesnt fix the problem.

Im just hate seeing it dirty and every little mark on the black car haha

Yeah have been eyeing off some new wheels... think its more about getting the right offset this time

pretty happy with the car (other then the paint and suspension which is pretty much solved now) so maybe what you've said is the right way to go if i can keep my spending under control haha

You don't think they leave me stuck with a freshly buffed car and paint damage (making me have to fork out for the paint on top of the excess for the buffing)

                  Might try that. Cheers!

Mate if an assessor told me something would buff out I'd tell him to prove it. Hahaha.

Once/if that doesn't work you'll have slight leverage. Good luck.
