Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Window winder (easy question!)

Hey lads, new to the forum, and really only on here to get a couple answers to help out a friend who just bought an 01 Polo. Unfortunately it has two annoying problems: 1) a rear window winder is missing. I've sourced a replacement from a 99 Polo - are they the same? They both seem to have that clip in system, but the winder regulator doesn't seem to poke through the door trim far enough for the winder to actually grasp onto it. Am I missing something? Could the winder I bought be broken short or something?

Secondly, the hole for the bolt holding driver side door handle in place (at the back of the door if you know what I mean) is threaded. It looks too small to tap a bigger thread into the hole. I'm thinking either just get a longer bolt (as the thread further down looks alright) or try one of those helicoil insert things. Any ideas? Cheers lads!
