Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2016 VW polo 66 tsi noise from the back when first taking off and gear shift

    Good morning beautiful people,

I am a poor university student who needed a car to travel around and bought a 2016 volkswagen GTI recently. All servicing done etc without any issues flagged and adequate logbook. Drove well, no issues over the last few weeks.

I'm not sure if this is something I have noticed recently and was always the case or if it's something new but the car seems to make a small bump/grinding (very difficult to describe the noise - almost sounds like something becoming unstuck) when first trying to take off at the lights and sometimes when shifting gears (low gear mostly).

I have never owned a VW vehicle so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if this is something that is commonly known as an issue and I need to take it to a mechanic.

Any advice would be appreciated - I don't know anything at all about cars past the basics so would appreciate any advice.

In case of repairs - how much am I looking at?

    thanks in advance.
