I noticed recently that the fuel gauge on my Passat 98 (1.8 manual) wasn't working properly. It'll tell me that I have a full tank whilst I only have half a tank left.
Anyways, took it to my mechanic as part of regular service, mentioned it to them, and they came back telling me that they need to replace the gauge cluster. I haven't asked them more than that, but is it going to be expensive? It's an old car, so if it's going to cost me too much, I probably just won't worry about it.
