Sat Nav Sd Cards

Collected my 103TSI Highline on Wednesday, dealer delivery guy had the SD card ready to go so it looks like the supply of the SD cards may have caught up to the number of cars.

I collected my 110TDI last Thursday (23/05/13) from Austral in Brisbane and it had the SD card for navigation in it. I've looked at the maps but not had to use the system so far. It's disappointing that the Voice mode doesn't work in Australia and also DAB is missing here. I did notice that there were a number of items in the pre-delivery sheet that were not ticked or crossed out. Who knows if they were done? Also there was a sheet I was asked to sign about all the things they were supposed to do at delivery. Quite a few of those items were not done either. Emailed them to complain but absolutely no response. Seems typical but they do state they are trying to be the best dealer in Australia. They have a very long way to go unless the others are very bad.

I had the same problem.
Apparently there werent any in the country and had to be ordered in. I waited about 2 weeks for mine. Dealer gave me a full tank of fuel when I went back to pick it up to say sorry for the inconvenience and I didnt even ask for it.

If I had to guess what's going to happen - Nick (the OP) will keep pestering the dealer, the dealer will just grab a car from another car, then repeat the process with the person who buys that car, and so on. Eventually they might get the additional SD card.

Clearly Guy_H had a dealer who knew what they were doing!Originally posted by Guy_H View PostMy new car had the card in the slot & the official box in the glovebox.

You do realise that the dealers are the ones who are meant to order the SD cards and supply them with the vehicle upon sale!Originally posted by Golf7 View PostHey,
I know the feeling, get your awesome new car but... There's one massive stain on your new shirt...Ask for some compensation, you have the right legally under consumer law, assuming you're in Queensland's jurisdiction...

Hey,Originally posted by nick118 View PostHi Guys,
Sorry to bring this up again but I am still getting the run around from my dealer over this SD card. Apperently they still haven't arrived and 10 days have now passed since I have picked up the car. I need to know if any sat nav onwers have received the SD card or they getting the same story. I'm tring to work out how to respond to the dealer and just need to get some information.
Cheers

HI Guys,Originally posted by nick118 View PostGood to hear, I was worried that I would be waiting a while for it when I just want to try it out!
So far so good, I am very happy with the car, still getting use to the dsg gearbox and the stop-start but all in all I have no complaints. I love the look and the interior is just a nice place to be especially at night with the led lighting. Our other car is a 118 and I find the performance very similar but sometimes I do miss that twin charge engine!
How are you finding your one mate?
The car comes already allocated the SD card automatically if it has the sat nav option.
If the dealer hasnt given it to you they either forgot to order it against the car or dont understand the procedure.
Cheers,
Boris

Might be a bit off topic but some VW dealerships are part of parent companies that own dealerships of other car brands. The one I go to in Canberra even share the same service workshops with their other dealerships. However I have heard more bad things about their VW team than the other ones they run. This brings me to ask whether it is a dealership thing, or a VW thing...
When I owned a Toyota for 5 years in Sydney I have gone to 3 different Toyota dealerships for service. I don't remember having any sort of problems with any of them at all. The notion that VW dealerships are shocking may be an effect of how VW has trained them. If dealerships are asked to react a certain way to problems then that's what they will do. A dealership refusing to fix a problem or saying there is no problem (when in fact there is), may not be of their own doing but rather as instructed by VW Australia.
I find it too convenient if VW Australia blamed their dealer network for its problems.

Given that button can easily be changed between voice control and mute in the Mk6 using VCDS, that might be a simple fix later one when Ross-Tech get their hands on a Mk7 and document the new control modules.
I'd think the SD shortage would only be a problem for a short amount of time and shouldn't be ongoing in the months to come. I don't really like the idea of maps on an SD card - more chance of it disappearing.

Good to hear, I was worried that I would be waiting a while for it when I just want to try it out!Originally posted by Mkj View PostHi Nick,
I picked up my 103TSI Highline also without the satnav sd card on April 23 as they were apparently not then in Australia. I was obviously very happy to take the car home without satnav rather than wait for it to arrive! My dealer then rang to call just less than a week later to say that it had arrived and I picked it up that same day. So it shouldn't take too long!
I also asked my dealer about the voice control, as it wasn't working in my car. They contacted VW Australia and apparently VW made a mistake in the brochure specification- voice control is not available in the Australian market.
