  • SSD’s. (Secret Spirited Drives)

Not sure if this is a new idea but perhaps we could post our favourite “test” roads with a brief rundown of the road, speed limit/s and length and, of course, location.

Mods, feel free to move or even delete the thread if it’s pushing the boundaries of acceptable 😉

Hope this takes off, I’m guessing we all search for fun roads to enjoy our autos, so...

NSW. Sandy Creek Rd. Mulbring to Quorrobolong. 17kms. Bends, then twisty descent to tiny bridge to opening ascent to straights, bends and then turn around and doi it all again. 😜

Oh, and it goes from 80 up to the ascent, then 100 from there on. Well, sort of close to 100 🙄

I like the back toad from Coffs to Coramba. It's a little busy, but a good warm up through some beat country. Then the toad from Coromba to Ulong. It's windy 14km hill climb on a fairly decent road. Not a lot of traffic to get stuck behind, most cars pull over.

At the top there is the Cafe in the Valley. Awesome coffee and cake, then it's back down the hill.

Another good toad is the Bellingen to Dorrigo climb up the range. Depending on time of year and time of day it can be busy. Caravans and no overtaking lanes.

I recently drive the toad through the Springbrook Nat Park coming into Nerang on the Gold Coast. It was pretty fun. Although super heavy police presence around summer and school holidays and a lot of motor cyclists with death wishes.

.. or the lycra brigade who deliberately clog lanes because they were bullied at school.

Don't get me started. I used to live next to a cafe popular with cyclists. They'd all pile out onto the road and adjust their tights and shoes holding up traffic.

Highway Patrol now use it for their morning meetings and that nonsense has stopped.

Oh I will get you started.

The fact is there are plenty of ******* drivers in the mix, so it does go both ways. The problem is unlike in most other hobbies/sports/whatever you want to call it - the more into it they are, the less they follow the rules. Almost never have an issue with a casual solo rider on their way to work, it's always the groups of lycra guys who think they're in the Tour.

I'm not surprised they don't want rego plates.
