Mr vdub today offered $21k for my MY05 2.0 TDI DSG for a new Golf pacific, so it looks like I will go with a private sale. The actual salesman reckon they are are scarce as hens teeth and 2nd handers like mine sell very quickly, just checked the Trading post and there is only 1 or 2 TDI's on the market. Even at 21K resale value is good.

Deposit needed by mid June for new Pacific delivered in September
