Hi all,
My 2006 Golf V 2L TDI is making a whining/wrenching vibration sound when taking off. It's more obvious when taking off uphill (e.g. in reverse when reversing out of my driveway and up the hill) but can also happen when shifting to second gear, especially if I try to get going quickly at low speeds. The sound seems to happen at roughly the same part of the clutch pedal travel but it doesn't happen all the time.
I had VW look at it the last time I had it serviced in Feb and they said that there was corrosion on the under side of the car which might indicate corrosion on the flywheel, hence the noise. They told me a flywheel machine should fix the problem but that it was expensive and I should just keep on driving because eventually the corrosion would wear off. However I think the noise is getting worse if anything
so I'm thinking of trying to get it fixed.
1. About how much would this flywheel machine cost?
2. Is it likely to work? Don't want to spend my heard earned dollar for no reason...
3. Is corrosion under the car such a bad thing? I bought it second hand from a dealer so I really don't have a history for the car but it seems like it would need to have been treated pretty poorly to end up like that within 4 years of manufacture. Is this predictive of any further problems?
Thanks
