  • Which wheels? BBS CK or Oz Superturismo?

Ordered my CW 5 door GTI and due around mid-may!

Since the car only had the 17's on it i was looking at purchasing some 19's but need an opinion!

Still stuck on the thought of black wheels fading into the wheel well too much and not standing out enough!

Oh and do you need tire pressure sensors in the tyres for the mk 6 GTI? I think i read somewhere that you dont need them?

    BBS CK Anthracite

    BBS CK Silver

    Oz Superturismo Silver

    Oz Superturismo black

If anyone has pics of the aforementioned wheels then it would be greatly appreciated if you could post em up!

    Cheers,
    Matt

I personally wouldn't go 19s, but buy what YOU personally like. It's your car, it's your money, do what you want not what a bunch of largely anonymous people who aren't ultimately impacted by your decision think you should do.

Wheels are a personal choice and peoples opinions will always be different.

      Have a look here.

you can select the wheels you want and see what they will look like on the car.

dont do 19's unless you have a good dentist.

Seeing as im bored i did up the views

They're not that bad. I've got 19's on my mk4 and you can still get 35 profile tyres and be 100% legal and not impact on the rolling diameter. Theyre a little bit rougher than 40 profile tyres that you'd get on the 18's, but I've never had a problem with them being overly rough at all, and I drove an hour each way for work everyday on the Pacific Hwy for two months.
I've known ppl who've had 15 and 20 profile tyres, they were like rubber bands and yes those cars were very rough

Do wheels from overseas pass Aus standards? I know they'd be TUV or DOT approved or whatever but does that count for anything in Aus?

I reckon the CK Anthracite btw

            I reckon CK anthracite too.

Not sure the legalities, i know a few people have on here have bought off them and i dont see them being any different than wheels you can buy here although the only reason i was using their website was because i know they have the option to mock up what the wheels would look like on your car.

No reason you cant source them locally.

Yeah I've been looking at 18" OZ Ultraleggera's and it's $340US from TT or $600AU from Aus. But I thought they needed to be official imports to get the officail Aus approval? Either way I'd still probly buy from the US anyway

apart from ride quality, the other problem with 19" rims is that it can make your brake disks look horribly undersized

nothing worse than big, open style rims with teeny-looking brakes

Profile isn't the be-all and end-all. Your tyre profile is the tyre sidewall height expressed as a percentage of the tread width. So a 235/35R19 tyre has a taller sidewall than a 225//35R19 for instance, and a shorter sidewall than a 245/35R19 - because the sidewall height is 35% of the tread width, which is different on each tyre.

Comfort on a given wheel/tyre combo also depends largely on where you live and what roads you regularly drive. I imagine 19" wheels would be murder if you drove Parramatta Rd in Sydney every day, but probably nowhere near as bad if you did a lot of highway km or live close to work in an area with good quality roads.

Tyres for 19" wheels also cost a lot more than on 18" wheels, which are more expensive than tyres for 17" wheels, etc. And you're much more likely to bend your expensive 19" rim on a pothole than you are on a 17" rim...

Well i have decided on which rims im ordering!

One last thing before i order them!
Does anyone know if the GTI needs the tyre pressure sensors inserted on the inside of the wheel? ie. the ones that tirerack.com sell?
