With Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink likely to be supported by head units in new VAG cars over the next 12-18 months, is it worth optioning up to a higher end sat nav unit on a new car today?

For example, if I'm looking at buying a new Octavia, should I bother paying extra for the 8" Columbus unit, because in 12 months time its likely a Columbus that supports Android Auto / CarPlay / MirrorLink will be available, and its unlikely my 2014 Columbus could be upgraded. i.e. I will have to cough up for a new head unit.

MirrorLink is already available in the new VW Polo and Skoda Fabia in Europe.

Here is MirrorLink working with 2015 Golf GTI:

Here's a demo of Android Auto with a "standard" head unit in a 2015 Hyundai Sonata:

And Apple's CarPlay in the same car:

Finally, Does changing your car's head unit void your warranty?
