G'day, I'm Ade (Adrian) of Nambour , found this forum many times as a vehicle repairer (advanced amateur) and thought worth a join as I now am into the latest era cars; running a Passat B6 4motion 3.2L DSG etc and wife in a 1.4L petrol Golf.
I bought the VCDS but found there is much more to know and do than mere codes; experience is worth its weight in gold.
So hopefully my curious queries at times will learn from you and even possibly you may glean some value from me.
Ex muso, ex beekeeper, ex business consultant , ex Indian orphanage patron etc now retired from most things but I cannot allow others to do my work, so I fix own cars.
Had countless "splitties" from 1959 through to 1997 model as well as most other air cooled models over theyears, and have serviced and rebuilt many VW models in air cooled including full engine overhauls, but of course I sent away crankcases for line bore etc ... but air cooled is not relevant here, just profiling my long life in VW ... my family car as a baby was a 1956 VW Combi and later a 1964 Microbus which I inherited .... so it is in the blood tho' the blood runs a bit thinner these days with many issues in mind (such as wife's Golf engine disintegrating a piston at 45,000 km and needing to debate with VW for a week until they acknowledged responsibility for a defect that is worldwide recognised) and some such issues as integrity which could never have come to mind in earlier days ... but they still make a nice car (albeit heavy on the gizmos and perhaps as a result getting too complex for reliability.
Purse our lips and persevere all the same ... tx for being here ... hope we can interact.
