Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • ACT HELP!! 2000 T4 2.5 Petrol Syncro LWB - Cold start all the time.

    Hi Guys,
long time lurker, first time poster.

    I have a 2000 T4 Syncro 2.5 Petrol LWB.

When I start her up, rev's go to 1200, sit there for 2-3 minutes then drop to an idle of 8-8.5.

This happens regardless of the temprature.

I have had it in multiple times with the most recomended VW blokes in Canberra, even left it with them for over a week, they replaced the throttle body, relay 30, fiddled with the temp semnsors and nothing has fixed it.

When driving, the revs take about 2-3 seconds to drop when changing gears or going into nuetral.

Im assuming its a cold start issue, mechanic told me theres nothing wrong with the cold start sensors.

ANY help would be greatly appreaciated, the Mechanics have basically thrown their hands up, they are VW speacilists but this one has them stumped and I want to avoid going to the dealership's here in Canberra as they have an appaling rep.
